where is gvfs?

I hate it when this happens :-)
As soon as I emailed my question, I found the dang things. They are
under /run/user/<userID>/gvfs (no leading dot - and "locate" avoids the
/run directory).
It works a treat! If my user ID were (say) 1111, this would give me
permanent access to any gvfs-mounted filesystems, even inside programs
like Thunderbird that do not understand GIO:
cd ; ln -s /run/user/1111/gvfs mynetworkdrives
