I installed it via download from the Skype site yesterday. I suspect
you may be installing the repository version, 4.x, which is indeed no
longer supported. Another dick move by Microsoft, since it worked fine;
they have deliberately broken it to force Linux users to take up a far,
far less comprehensive (and by all accounts for more intrusive) new
version.
The new version seems to be missing lots of features (like conf calls
etc), but maybe they are hidden behind that plus sign and you can't use
them until a connection is there. Does anyone use Skype for Windows? Is
it as dumb for Windows too?
