Its pretty common for businesses to have a registered public domain 
name, and different domain name for their private networks.

An example would be to have a public domain name like yourdomain.com, 
and use yourdomain.lan privately. Makes it easier for an admin like me 
to keep things separate at the firewall.

But you aren't restricted - some people use completely different public 
and private domain names. Its just personal choice.
