Are capacitors the number 1 culprit? Perhaps I've just been really
lucky with motherboards and monitors. The last thing I repaired and got
working was my Dual CS-505 record deck, which just needed new motor
start capacitors.
I suspect that electronic equipment lasts better when it is
consistently in frequent use. I've seen some expensive laboratory test
kit sit on a shelf for some months then go BANG when next plugged in. I
had the same thing happen with a PC power supply a little while back.
It had been sitting on the shelf for a while, then worked while I
installed Ubuntu, then went BANG and tripped out the house ring mains
breaker.
This probably digresses, though, from the purpose of this mail list.
