Well, my Samsung monitor from about 2005 died after three years of daily 
operation. It had a bad capacitor in the power supply for the back 
light. Fortunately I could repair it and it is alive again, but I 
wouldn't recommend Samsung devices since then. OTOH you can probably 
read about similar experience also with other manufacturers.
