Hello Everybody.
When working with Kubuntu 14.04 and some previous versions, the system
recognised my Samsung ML-1660 right away or after a few quick tweaks. However,
at Kubuntu 16.04 LTS, the printer is even not being recognised - not via CUPS,
also not via the printer settings at SYSTEM SETTINGS, not even via the command
line command lsusb. Now, I am working at a fresh install of Kubuntu 16.04.
Splix, a package with drivers for amongst others my printer, has been
installed there by default - however, this does not help. The latest version
of the "unified driver" from Samsung itself is from 2013 - I do not dare any
more to use that one.
At 14.04 and in previous versions, it was possible to manually install a ppd-
file of such a Splix driver for Samsung ML-1660. Both at CUPS and at SYSTEM
SETTINGS > printers, an online list of many printer drivers showed up after a
few clicks; here at *Ubuntu Xenial, this list does not show up any more.
At "Ask Ubuntu" and various other websites, I have seen that several others
have problems to get their printers and scanners started via *Ubuntu 16.04. -
this applies for any flavour of Ubuntu and for several models of printers and
scanners that work out of the box in other versions of *Ubuntu. However, so
far, I did not find any remedy that has helped me.
Is there any way to get my printer working again????!!! Do I need to upgrade
to 16.10 or to install again 14.04? Or is there any other measure you can
recommend?
Yours,
Bas G. Roufs.
