Putting arXiv.org onto the left hand launcher list

you can install the webapp-container package, then put an icon
into ~/.local/share/icons/ and create a .desktop file in 
~/.local/share/applications/

here is an example:

ogra at anubis~$ cat ~/.local/share/applications/rocketchat.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Name=Rocket Chat
Comment=Desktop version of rocket messaging app
Exec=webapp-container --app-id=rocketchat http://rocket.ubuntu.com
Icon=rocket
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Network;
X-Desktop-File-Install-Version=0.22
ogra at anubis~$

with this file in place and an icon called rocket.png in the above
location i can now search for "rocket chat" in the applications section
of the unity dash to find the app, click it to open and once it runs,
pin the icon to the launcher with a right click.
