I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from 14.04 to ubuntu 16.04. As I'm
using Xubuntu I assume the upgrade is to Xubuntu. Helas, that was met
with a lot of errors.
It didn't use the graphic mode when it started and apt-get didn't work.
With help of the internet I solved bot.
However, I remain stuck with the following error/problem:

When I try to solve the "held packages" sentence I get:

However, The URL
http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial/InRelease does exist so
the reason why it couldn't be resolved is not clear. The same goes for
security.ubuntu.... and archive.canonical.com....
The google sites (dl.google.com/linux...) were not reachable (all using
firefox as browser).
So I don't know where the problems are but at least the entries in the
settings are not in order and I have no clue how to solve this problem.
I hope somebody in the group can help. Of course I followed the standard
lines to report to the developers but I don't think I'll get much help
from there.
