This is theoretically possible with advanced mucking around with
config files, but TBH, I have never got it to work. I find the
reboot-into-other-distro-and-update-GRUB  method simple and reliable.

I am considering switching back to a separate bootloader, though.
Sadly XOSL is long-unmaintained and I've not yet found a modern
replacement.
