Apart from the files that were already mentioned, there's
also /var/log/dpkg.log . Anyway, don't care about the log files, try
upgrading by command line and care about the output you get there.

There are commands to fix issues, but before I'll mention those
commands, first run

  sudo apt update

then run

  sudo apt full-upgrade

and post the complete output of "sudo apt full-upgrade", if it should
fail.
