16.10 Live DVD pcspkr issue

Hi,
after booting Lubuntu 16.10 from the official ISO, from DVD and running
a script to set up the live media, I experience something strange.
I attached the script. One thing it should do is enabling the bell, so
it loads the pcspkr module and enables the bell for lxterminal and
xfce4-terminal. The first scripts did not care about pulseaudio, but I
only got it working with later scripts and the attached script, after
removing pulseaudio.
The first strange issue is, that the "bell" command works already with
pulseaudio installed, but "echo -e \\a" doesn't.
If I launch lxterminal and run the script, the bell doesn't work, ps
aux shows that nothing related to pulseaudio is running and lsmod
confirms that pcspkr is loaded. If I launch xfce4-terminal, all
settings are applied, however, the bell still doesn't work.
If I run the script a second time or close and reopen lxterminal, the
bell doesn't work either.
The bell works after closing and reopening lxterminal + running the
script a second time.
That I need to close and open lxterminal could make some sense, but
that I need to run the script a second time is something I can't
explain, since I don't notice something that should make a
difference, after running the script two times.
How could I enable the pcspeaker beep by just running a script one time?
For the live DVD usage I not necessarily need to remove pulseaudio, I
only removed it, because it seemingly affects the bell. I can't use the
command "bell" as replacement for "printf \\a", since compatibility to
scripts that already use \\a is required.
Regards,
Ralf
