The reason you have to enter your password when installing applications is
that this (and other similar things) is what makes it not necessary to run
an email virus checker, and makes it much less likely that your system will
be taken over by hackers than if you were using Windows. The system will
not let you write to system areas unless you explicitly give it
permission.  I think the small annoyance of having to enter your password
occasionally is a very minor inconvenience compared to the alternative.
