Is a blank screen the blank screen of death?

The original thread for this problem was about a laptop, but I have
experienced the same thing with a desktop computer. After researching a
little, someone mentioned something about the cable. So, I switched from a
15-pin VGA cable to a DVI cable, and the problem went away. Something to do
with signaling.
