Both these statements are true.

However, Thunderbird does *not* derive from Eudora code.

Eudora was a closed-source commercial product and was never open-sourced.

Thunderbird is the email/Usenet component of the Mozilla suite, made
into a standalone app. It is based on Netscape code.

When Qualcomm discontinued Eudora, it started to develop a new
open-source version, based on Thunderbird but with a Eudora-like UI.
This was called Eudora OSE:

FossaMail is a new email client, forked from Thunderbird, by the team
that made the PaleMoon browser, a fork of Firefox. It looks pretty
good from what I have read.

I like Thunderbird although I have now switched away from it to Gmail.

As Mozilla.org has now, for the second time, announced it will no
longer sponsor development of Thunderbird (first time, it changed its
mind and went back), I'm glad that there is at least one active fork
which may continue.

As far as I know, FossaMail has nothing whatsoever to do with Eudora
OSE or anything else from Eudora.
