I always use the terminal - sudo aptitude update, sudo aptitude upgrade.

It's good to learn to switch depending on different environments. A more
extreme example - if I drive down to Portsmouth and take the car ferry
to Santander, I have to remember to drive on the wrong side of the road
when I get off in Spain.

I suspect, then, that you've successfully updated Chrome to the latest
version and that if you look at the script I mentioned earlier you will
find that it's been modified in lines 24 and 25.

Have you now got the green Up to Date tick?

BTW as I might have mentioned earlier, I'm actually using Mint 17 with
the Mate desktop, because I prefer this desktop. It should make no
difference here because it's Ubuntu 14.04 under the hood.
