Update check is failing

More info: The failure is associated with an added item I had under "Other
Software".  It was for Chrome.  Details:

Disabling the entry makes the error not happen any more when updating the
cache.

Now I just have to find where I got the info for that entry, and update it
to whatever is new....  I'll probably have better luck searching for that
than for the menu.
