FYI: 15.10 -> 16.04 worked pretty well

I upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04 last night. This is the first time that
I can remember upgrading over an existing install. Before this I have
always done a complete new install of the newer version, then restored
my own stuff from backups.

To my relief it all worked pretty well. My Internet connection is a
piece of wet string, so downloading the upgrade took over five hours;
then it took at least another hour to actually install itself.

At the end of the process, I rebooted, and pretty much everything
worked. My Compiz configuration was unchanged, Evolution still worked,
but I did have to re-enter my wifi PSK :-)

So far the only real oddity is that avconv had vanished and I had to
install libav-tools. Odd, because libav-tools was installed in 15.10.

Anyway, I'm sure I will find more little gotchas, but certainly all my
normal daily business and personal activities with this laptop are
working fine after the upgrade.

Nice work by Canonical and all their little helpers.

Regards, K.
