Boot messages?

I remove the "quiet" option in the kernel parameter list, so I can see the
messages that are output during boot.

Unfortunately, when boot is ready, the screen is cleared and the login prompt
(or graphical login manager) appears, giving me no chance to read any error
messages. Switching back with CTRL-ALT-F! don't help, either.

How can I read those messages?
