how to debug hang during boot

Odd that you have seen this on multiple systems, I have never seen such a thing.
What happened after it hung for 7 hours?  Did it then startup or did
you force a restart or what?  If you forced a restart did it startup
ok?

Has the machine got a GUI or is it a server?
