Can Ubuntu fully replace OSX as the single os in Mac AIR/PRO?

I don’t know if it will work, but why not remove the ssd and replace it with a new one? 

 

That way if something goes wrong or doesn’t work properly, you can easily swap back the original ssd and still have a working system.
