Hi good people.
I am a beginner user of Ubuntu for about 7 years. (can follow online guides
to troubleshoot but not somebody who would remember any commands by heart
or have expert understanding of OS)
People who do not want to hear my Windows rant shall goto subroutine ‘X’.
I have a 6 years old ThinkPad tablet convertible running on Ubuntu because
windows suck (my wife's main portable). Previous to that i had a HP
pavilion which i originally switched to Ubuntu because i couldn’t live with
windows anymore. I do have a windows rig for all windows apps which is more
of a home entertainment system than used for any computing needs.
Last year i coughed up a thousand quid for a nice machine, thinkpad helix
i7, 8gig ram, the lot. Since then, (from windows 8 to now 10 pro) i have
spent more than 90% of my time troubleshooting and less time in productive
tasks. I was this close " " to throw it outside my 3rd floor window then go
downstairs to repeatedly jump on it. The PC lagged like as if it was a 486
and me running windows 10 on it. I spent 1 week to understand that 1 driver
file of my sound card was somehow loading in startup causing all sorts of
‘high blood pressures’ issues for me. I’ve had enough. I only need windows
to run MS. Office which I can whineHQ; and Rosetta stone, and on 2nd
thoughts maybe run a Win 7 VM to do both on Ubuntu.
*Subroutine X:*I like nice hardware something like the new MacBook air or
better yet Chromebook Pixel 2 (2015). Is there a (to naively) clean way to
install Ubuntu on it (after a full wipe of Chrome OS?)? I have seen all
sorts of methods which run simultaneously with ChromOS but I fear if I go
down that route, the machine is 1000 euros+ then there will be Chrome OS
simultaneous with Ubuntu then there will be a VM running some productivity
windows apps on it. It’s all bit too risky don’t you guys think?
OR if there is another nice machine out there with possibility of clean
Ubuntu install plz recommend. Because otherwise I am left with windows on
MS surface which is ridiculously expensive at 2000 euros or a alienware 15
R2. Plz help cuz it hurts now L
