No, keep the guests.

Maybe, but not necessarily.
At the moment I'm not using Virtualbox with my Ubuntu install, but on
Arch Linux I'm using it. The version provided by the repos is 5.1.2,
but I stay with 5.0.24, regarding a graphics issue. A while back many
users had another issue, to cut a long story short, sometimes upgrading
or downgrading the kernel and/or upgrading or downgrading Virtualbox
solves issues. When upgrading or downgrading Virtualbox, it could be
required to install different versions of e.g. libvpx and in general you
should be familiar with dkms. How to solve your issue depends on your
skills. It's known that upgrading Virtualbox habitually breaks things.
It has nothing to do with the used distro, it's an upstream related
issue.
If you shouldn't be lazy, consider to transform the guest ISO, most
likely a vdi, to another format and test another virtualization. I
already use qcow instead of vdi for my win7 install, but I'm to lazy
to switch to another virtualization.
Virtualbox has the advantage that you don't need to care about shared
folders and desktop integration, but it's drawback is, that it's very
crappy software, especially in regards to USB. I'm using it to sync
with a tablet PC by USB and one of two times the sync fails.

Ralf
