going from 14.04 LTS to 16.04.1

I recently upgraded 5 laptops for 14.4 to 16.04 (both 32 bit versions).
I had no problems with one which did not have Wine installed. The other
4 gave me problems all associated with Microsoft Fonts. Two completely
crashed and I had to install 16.04 from the downloaded ISO and then
replace my home directory from back up. The other two halted at the
installation of the Microsoft fonts, but by then I had been told by
people on this list that I could use the tab key to accept the license
and both these completed successfully.

I have since upgraded all of the laptops to 64 bit by simply installing
16.04 64 bit version and then restoring my home directory from backups.
Every thing , including my VirtualBoxes worked perfectly

I back up my laptops at least once a week to an external hard drive. I
have one drive for each machine.(a Terabyte drive will carry at least 25
separate back ups for each of my machines)

My experience confirms that regular backups are essential, but if you
have them you can recover from any disaster.
