provide help.

Consider to describe what exactly you did. Did you use a GUI or command
line? How did you prepare the release upgrade, e.g. did you remove
third party repositories? What error messages, if any, did you get?

Indeed, different distros provide different advantages and drawbacks in
many regards, also in regards to update maintenance. Perhaps another
distro is better in regards to your usage and the way you wish to
maintain the install. The reliability of a distro has much to do with
the needs of the user. You shouldn't expect that another distro per se
is more or less reliable, it depends much on your requirements.
