*Data* files are (generally) not word size dependent. None of *thunderbird's*
data files depend on the system word size or processor type. Or even O/S or
platform.

This is going to depend on your VM system.  Xen vs KVM vs VirtualBox vs 
VMware.  They all do things differently and upgrading from the 32-bit host to 
the 64-bit will have different effects.
