Sorry I don't understand the question, could you rephrase please?

Here (Ubuntu 14.04 with Unity) if I press "ALT" it opens the prompt where I
can type "new tab" or "new window" to open a new tab or window.

Also, if I access the menu via the bar at the top of the screen it shows
those shortcuts in greyed out text next to the options.
