screen sharing on Ubuntu?

I know, I used one (early 2000's), and it was an absolute bastard.
Extraordinarily difficult to install and configure. Maybe there were
better ones I dodn't know about. Maybe there are better ones now -
which would you recommend?

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but how can I get my X desktop onto another
person's X display (Windows or otherwise) so that they can see it and
control it?
