Thunderbird email not working in ubuntu 14.04

The chances of that are extremely small. So small that even considering
it (in the absence of very clear evidence for it) is an utter waste of
time.

The error message from Claws suggests that you don't have Internet
access from that PC. They also suggest that your settings in Claws are
incorrect. The messages from Thunderbird suggest that you DO have
Internet access. Since Internet access is absolutely fundamental, we
need to know that you do have working Internet access on that PC.

So please answer my question: On the same PC as you are trying to use
Thunderbird on, can you do a Google search?

Or answer Ralf: Can you, from a terminal window on the same PC as you
are trying to use Thunderbird on, get a reply when you ping google.com?
