Chrome does collect data, either does Firefox, but

you could turn data collection of by Firefox's about:config, you can't
do it for Chrome, OTOH Chrome provides sandboxing, Firefox doesn't.

Consider to take a look at otrher web browsers too, e.g. take a
look at QupZilla and IceCat. IceCat e.g. allows to disable execution of
non-free JavaScript.
