MATE - Ignoring my keyboard layout?

I have my own keyboard layout that I've been using for years now. Today I
installed MATE in Ubuntu 14.04.

In my upper panel I have a layout switch. I can switch between "Sweden -
Swedish" and "Sweden - Johnny Rosenberg". The latter is, of course, my own
layout. It has been working perfectly, always, until now.

To the left of the keyboard layout switch there is another icon, looking
like a keyboard. Right clicking it and selecting Settings brings up the
iBus settings, whatever that is. It seems to override my keyboard settings.
In the "Input Methods" tab I can add "Sweden - Swedish", that's the closest
one to what I want.

In the "Advanced" tab I checked both checkboxes:
"Use the system's keyboard layout"
"Share the same input method between all programs"

I don't even know what an "input method" means, all I want is to be able to
use my own layout, which is perfectly tailored to my own needs, and being
able to change layout to what and whenever I need or want to. How do I
obtain this?

As I said, it SEEMS like the iBus thing overrides my keyboard layout
selection. That wouldn't be a problem as long I could select my own layout
in the iBus settings dialogue, but I can't...

Kind regards

Johnny Rosenberg
