It's possible to install the Holy Trinity, SpaceFM, Rodent and
Thunar, all can be set up to delete files, when the delete key is used,
but apart from this they differ a lot.
After a while a user might notice what file manager does fit best. For
most purposes I use command line, rm, ls, mv, cp, diff etc. and if
there should be a reason for me to use a file manager, then it's
SpaceFM. An older version of Rodent is usable too, but a newer version
on my machine suffers from serious performance issues.
SpaceFM by default might not provide everything a user needs, but it's
easy to create actions. SpaceFM is complete without the need to use a
crappy virtual file system. I've got a reason to use Thunar without
GVFS (assumed I would still use it), for some users Thunar would be
incomplete without GVFS.
However, I recommend to install SpaceFM, Rodent and Thunar and to use
all of them for a while. Some day a user likely will notice that one of
the three is used much more then the others.
Somebody used to Nautilus might want to take a look at Nemo and Caja or
if not that much is needed but e.g. a split window similar to mc, then
perhaps Xfe is interesting too.

Ralf
