Sorry about that.  I guess I learned something new.  I thought that if I 
entered a new subject and wiped the message body, it wouldn't know about 
my hastily-seized starting point.  But I guess it grabbed the thread 
info from the header .....

(I don't sort my mail by thread, so I've probably made this mistake many 
times without seeing the results!)
