thanks but your issue has to do with first selecting /dev/sdd5 and then
/dev/sdc.  grub is
supposed to be installed in the MBR, that means not a partition.
therefore if you picked /dev/sdd5 the first time that is why it didn't work;
it should have been just /dev/sdd.  when you chose /dev/sdc that is a
correct place for
grub and why it worked.

grub is installed fine on my drive on /dev/sdb and
when i turn on the system it will load the grub menu and show me the
list of kernels
