/etc/init.d/postfix not stopping postfix

[Tony Baechler - BATS]

What is the error you're getting and how do you know it isn't stopping?
What version of Ubuntu are you running?  What happens if you run these commands:

sudo service postfix stop
sudo postfix status
mailq
pgrep postfix
sudo tail /var/log/mail.log
