update-manager --no-focus-on-map ??

Nice overview --- thanks!!

Since the several 'update-manager --no-focus-on-map' instances seem to
be taking significant memory [and may not be visible], would it be
best, and safe, to kill all the update-manager PIDs and then run the
above from a shell?
