In the case of MLSD, however, it is the fault of developers being
adamant that their own view is correct, and refusing to compromise even
at the expense of users of their product. LIST is a well-established
part of the FTP protocol, with FAR more claim to be "standard" than the
comparative newcomer MLSD, and not using LIST *breaks things*.

They have forgotten the two maxims that have stood us in such good stead
for all these years:

1: Rough consensus and running code
2: Be conservative in what you send, be liberal in what you accept

It's OK. They have no obligation to do what I want. On the other hand I
*cannot* do what they want (I do not control the server), so I will just
not use their program. No-one wins.
