PulseAudio and USB sound.

>From memory (at work now) the volume icon on the top bar, right-click &
select 'sound preferences' the far right tab called configuration I think,
there is a drop down menu of any sound devices connected at the time!
You are of course correct it says something like Logitech USB audio hub or
words to that effect!

If your device is not being detected correctly, there maybe a way of
'telling' ubuntu what it is, I have had this with a mobile b-band dongle
before now and was able to tell ubuntu that it was NOT a mobile storage
device!
This was not a hard thing and the web page is bookmarked on my pc at home!

Sorry I can't be of more help if you are still struggling I will be able to
