There are lots of reasons the fonts might look bad.

If *everything* looks blurry, suspect the cable. Try a shorter one, or a
better one.

If the display is on the whole pretty crisp, but some things look jaggy
(especially curves and angled lines), then it's probably a resolution
issue. Perhaps the monitor is not reporting (or the computer is
ignoring) the native resolution of the monitor. If the monitor is
forced to display a non-native resolution, it can make fine details look
crappy.

The native resolution of your Samsung is 1280 x 1024 at 75 Hz; what
resolution is your computer reporting (Settings utility, then choose
"Display")? If it's anything other than 1280 x 1024, set it to 1280 x
1024 and see if that helps.

If the resolution shown is not 1280 x 1024, and 1280 x 1024 is not in
the drop-down list of available resolutions, try rebooting with the
monitor connected and powered up. And try a different/better cable.

I'm sure you have considered this possibility, but anyway: Lower
resolutions make everything look chunkier than in higher resolutions. If
you are slumming it at 1280x1024 after getting used to something
significantly better, you may just be the victim of your own refined
tastes :-)

Regards, K.
