download sickening slow

Good evening
Not that it really matters, but I would like to know ...
When I download something via the Software-Center or Software-Updater etc.
the "download" is sickening slow. Right now, I am downloading Callibre =
27 MB
That takes something like 25 minutes.

I do have a fiberoptical connection and the "usual" download time at
other sites would be
something around 30-40 seconds.

The "software update" (360-380 MB) I did (after each install) always
takes about 2 hours!

Is there any deeper meaning to this VERY!!! slow download?
Is there maybe a way to speed it up a little?
