Yes you can, just re-format your ubuntu partition then choose that during
the install process. Do not choose any sort of "guided" option, as it will
either format the entire disk or add a new partition, though I haven't used
the GUI installer since 9.10 so it may not be called that anymore. I doubt
your ubuntu installation is unrecoverable, however I would need more data
on what is wrong with it in order to help you fix it, and if it is easier
for you to just re-install, it's up to you.
