I have built a abatch of dual-boot configurations--i.e., with various
distros--and in most cases, nothing could be simpler--install Windows
first. Then along the way of installing your favorite Linux, the
installer will ask you about partitioning (keep the windows
partition[s]) and further on, it will set up grub or grub 2 to
boot Windows and Linux, dual booting. No problem, no fuss, the whole
thing will take maybe 15 or 20 minutes, and a child could do it.

And if you ever need to "do anything" to Windows, it stands alone, and
you can. (You may have to run part of your Linux install disk again to
get grub working again when you're done.)

I've never had a situation where I had to "dual boot all the time."
I boot into Linux, and I don't turn the machine off, and maybe once a
month I have to boot into Windows for some reason.
