Most likely this is the Great Spirit of Ubuntu trying to tell you that
it is time you upgraded to a version that is still supported.

Otherwise have you checked in Startup Applications?  I have no idea
where this was in 10.04 though.

Do you leave them running when you close down?  If so do they restart
if you do close them manually?  I seem to remember that there used to
be a mechanism where you could specify that Ubuntu should
automatically restart running applications, but again I have no idea
now how this was controlled.
