can not connect via ethernet

Apparently not a permanent solution.  Could not connect just now.  Any
thoughts?

There is an old thread at
http://www.twm-kd.com/linux/realtek-rtl81688111e-and-ubuntu-linux/  but not
sure if this would work on Ubuntu 14.04
