Programs missing after update.

I don't see how you can blame the fact that it has been removed from a
ppa (which is not under the control of the Ubuntu organisation in any
way) is an indication that Ubuntu is becoming flaky.  You had better
ask the ppa maintainer why it has been removed.

How do you know it was 'gone' by the way?  apt-get, if that is what
you use for updating, will not remove an application without telling
you.
