digikam crashes repeatedly in 14.04

Ever since I updated Ubuntu from 13.04 to 14.04, digikam crashes
often. Not an obvious pattern when. Often I see it crash when saving
an edited file, but the edited file always has been written when I come
back in.

I'm on  64bit lenovo laptop, 16GB memory.

So far launchpad doesn't seem to report this, so perhaps it's just me,
or should try from scratch?  I have a huge picture collection.
The digikam4.db is 275MB and thumbnails file 3.7 GB.
