Another java question

$ sudo update-alternatives --config java
There is only one alternative in link group java: 
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/bin/java
Nothing to configure.

According to this only Java 7 is installed.  In Snyaptic it is shown as 
the installed version also, but Java 8 is listed as an option.  I guess 
I was just being overly cautious, because it came from a PPA and I have 
installed the last 3 version of Java from there this had never happened 
before.  I am going to do a full back up later today and after that is 
done I will go ahead and let Synaptic install it.
