Thanks for the reply

.local/share/zieghtgeist was 684mb removed it and its improved the speed
but still not what I would hope for but gives me a start!

I disable internet search from the dash by default, this 'feature' is no
use to me, and worse smacks of windoze style bloatware to me! But I don't
complain all the time there is a option to turn it off! I wonder if
zeightgeist collects stats on the number of users of that feature........

I am going through the dot files in my home dir to see what other junk has
accumulated... this might speed things up further!
