I don't have any suggestions, but I can sympathize with you. I am sort
of in the midst of an installation of PCLOS to a Dell
E6510 laptop. It didn't like my CD installer, and it didn't like several
earlier versions of Partition Magic/GParted on CD,
but it finally took Parted Magic 2013_05_01. Then I installed PCLOS from
a flash drive (made from an installed PCLOS on
another machine). To my surprise, it created and formatted partitions
that I had left in an unused area, and put copies
of Linux files on them. Then I decided to erase the three extra
partitions (it even put an extra swap) and then the
machine wouldn't boot. Right now i have PCLOS installed on the two
"extra" partitions via a reinstall, and I'm still
debating how to straighten this out.
In addition to the former, the CD/DVD drive is not recognized at all by
either Windows 7 Pro or PCLinux. The systems
thenk there is no optical drive! I haven't figured that out at all. I
have been corresponding with folks on the PCLinux Forum
and there have been no real solutions yet.
Please include me in, anyone who has any information relative to this!
(In the meantime, I would have to say I can't recommend a recent Dell
laptop to anyone who wants to run Linux!)
