Ubuntu Server 12.04 spontaneous random reboot? nothing in log!

Yes it is, the only downside is that we downgraded our kernels because we have done some automation on virtual machines, and the whole setup runs on vmware workstation 8. Now, workstation 8 is incompatible with 3.8 kernel, and we cannot upgrade our setup to a newer workstation version so that it can run on the stock kernel.
So if we do test with the stock kernel, the whole workstation setup with VMs won't be running, and instead we'll have to put load on the server some other way, which will in a way change the test conditions.
