Scheduling jobs after midnight

Hello Ubuntu-users

I want to do software updates after midnight.  I am sure a program
exists but cron does not seem to be it.

I assume the new Software Updater will work after midnight ?

Please name a suitable program and a help source for step-by-step
instructions.
